Founded as spin-off of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Rigenerand is a joint venture between RanD, a biomedical company producing bioreactors for liver support and chemo-hyperthermic technology for cancer and researchers of the University of Modena e Reggio Emilia with a lasting expertise in cell and gene therapy.
Thanks to the investment by the Principia III-Health SGR Fund and other local investors, Rigenerand is a first-class building of more than 1200 m2 including offices, R&D and quality control laboratories and a cell factory of 450 m2 with class-B and BL3 suites for cell and gene therapies manufacturing.

Luca Longo, MS
Chairman
Luca’s experience spans across interrelated sectors and roles ranging from Industrial Chemistry to Theoretical Chemistry, from Journalism to Scientific Communication and extends into Biotechnology and Healthcare from the perspective of research, development and business. Personal and professional involvements are strictly intertwined in promoting and funding technological innovation into the Healthcare sector.
Giorgio Mari, MS
Chief Executive Officier
MS in chemistry active in the biomedical field since 1980. He has contributed to the development of Miramed Srl (Baxter) (1980-1990), to the creation of Biofil Srl (1990-1993) and Fresenius HemoCare Italia Srl (1994-2012).
Head of R&D Projects at Tecno Polo Mirandola (TPM), and CEO in Rigenerand Srl.
Massimo Dominici, MD
Scientific Founder
MD degree at the University of Pavia and post-graduate internship at the Vienna University (Austria). Residency in Hematology at the University of Ferrara. Post-Doctoral Associate at St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis (USA). Currently hospital physician, associate professor of Medical Oncology, head of the laboratory of cellular therapies at the Modena and Reggio Emilia University, director of the residency school in Medical Oncology and faculty of the PhD school of Molecular and Regenerative Medicine in the same University. More than 120 papers published with over 14000 citations. Co-founder and co-coordinator of the Mirandola Science & Tecnology Park. He has been co-founder of the Forum of Italian Researcher on MSC (FIRST), board member of JACIE, WBMT and scientific advisor for the Italian Minister of Health. He has been member of ISCT, ASH, ESCGT, IFATS, IPLASS. Past President of ISCT, now Chair of the Advisory Board and Chair of the Presidential Task Force on Unproven Cell Therapies. He is the scientific founder, member of the board and consultant of Rigenerand.
Paolo Paolucci, MD
MD degree at the University of Bologna. Residencies in Neonatology,Paediatrics and Computing at the University of Bologna. Residency in Allergology and Clinical Immunology at University of Florence. Post-doctoral Associate at the Hospital for Sick Children/Institute of Child Health in London (UK) and at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis (USA). Previously Full Professor of Paediatrics, Director of the Department of Mother and Child and Head of the Laboratory of Paediatric Oncology Research at the University of Modena. More than 200 papers published with hundreds of citations. Co-founder and co-coordinator of various scientific groups. Member of a number of National and International Scientific Societies (SIOP, ISCT, SIP, AIEOP, etc.) and of the Paediatric Committee (PDCO) at the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in London (UK).
He is member of the board of Rigenerand.
Alberto Luppi

Alberto has over twenty years experience in the accounting and purchase fields working for several companies. Since 1994 purchasing manager at Office Systems Srl, from 2001 accounting manager at P.M. Srl then Polidatasystem Srl, in 2004 accounting manager at Domina Srl. Since 2016 Alberto is the company accountant in Rigenerand.

Laura Fiammenghi, PhD
Qualified Person cGMP Facility
MS in Biology and Postgraduate Degree in Toxicology at the University of Bologna. PhD in Immunology and Cellular biology at the University of Torino. Laura has constantly developed patient-oriented projects in the field of immunotherapy. She has over ten years of experience in cGMP-manufacturing of immuno effector cells such as dendritic cell vaccines at the IRST in Meldola. She is the Qualified Person in Rigenerand Cell Factory.
Maria Carlotta Spano, PhD
Head of Production cGMP facility
MS in Medical Biotechnology and PhD in Molecular and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. Carlotta has developed projects aimed at the establishment of cancer gene therapy strategies by engineered T lymphocytes and adult stem cells. She is the head of manufacturing in Rigenerand Cell Factory.
Federico Ganzerli, MS
Quality Assistant Specialist / Plant Maintenance
With a MS degree in Electrical Engineeering, Federico has been covering the role of plant maintenance, environmental, health & safety Manager in several multinational healthcare companies (Biofil and Fresenius).
He is currently the Quality Assistant Specialist in Rigenerand.
Elena Bosi, MS
Quality Control cGMP
MS in medical chemistry and technologies at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
Elena performed an internship at the toxicology laboratory of the University studying the chemical pathways of Rhodiola Rosea on a stress induced cells as in vitro model.
Elena worked as microbiological analyst in a contract analytical laboratory for food testing services for one year.
She is currently part of the Rigenerand team as GMP quality control operator.
Chiara Quadrelli, PhD
Quality Control cGMP Facility Manager
MS in Medical Biotechnology, Postgraduate Degree in Clinical Pathology and PhD in Molecular and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. Chiara has studied specific immune response against viral and tumor antigen, participating to the development of a validate protocol of immunotherapy against a tumor associated protein. Translating to the clinical, she works in molecular and cytogenetic diagnostic participating in the identification of new bio-marker for hematological disease. She is the Head of Quality Control in Rigenerand.
Federica Pincelli, MS
Quality Control cGMP
MS in Medical Biotechnology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
Federica carried out an internship at the Experimental Hematology Laboratory of Modena during which she studied specific t-lymphocyte response against tumor antigen in hematological patients. She subsequently worked at the cytogenetic diagnostic laboratory and later as an analyst at Neotron Spa. She currently holds the role of GMP Quality Control at Rigenerand.
Martina Varricchio, MS
Production Operator cGMP Facility
Master’s degree in Medical Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine at the University of Milan.
Martina carried out an internship at the National Cancer Institute of Milan during which she studied the stromal component in breast cancer. She now works as production operator in Rigenerand Cell Factory.
Valentina Semeghini, PhD
Production Operator cGMP Facility
MS in Medical Biotechnology and PhD in Molecular and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. Valentina has developed projects aimed to determine the role of a transcription factor splice variants in different types of solid cancer. She now works as production operator in Rigenerand Cell Factory.
Laura Boschi, MS
Quality Assurance
MS in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at the University of Bologna. More than 5 years of experience on Advanced Therapy Medicinal Product (ATMP). Laura worked as consultant in a wide range of projects, mainly sterile medicinal products, manufactured in aseptic environment.
She is the head of Quality Assurance in Rigenerand Cell Factory.

Giulia Grisendi, PhD
R&D Manager
MS in Medical Biotechnology and PhD in Molecular and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. Additional Master Degree in Clinical and Experimental Flow Cytometry at the University of Urbino. Giulia has been involved in pre-clinical projects focusing on adult stem cell biology and their genetic engineering for cancer therapies. She is heading the R&D division of Rigenerand Cell and Gene Therapy.
Massimiliano Dall’Ora, PhD
R&D Scientist
MS in Health Biology and PhD in Oncology at University of Bologna. Massimiliano has been involved in the development of preclinical models for the study of anti-cancer therapies. He is a scientist in the R&D Division of Rigenerand Cell and Gene Therapy.
Giulia Casari, MS
R&D Scientist
MS in Medical Biotechnology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. During her final internship Giulia has been involved in the development of pre-clinical models aimed to evaluate the effect of synovial fluid on adipose tissue and mesenchymal progenitors in terms of stemness, proliferation, differentiation and tissue regeneration. This study belonged to a project for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Currently she is attending a PhD programme in the R&D Division of Rigenerand Cell and Gene Therapy, where she is involved in setting-up innovative 3D culture systems aimed to study tumor microenvironment and cell-based anticancer therapies. She is also studying the role played by mesenchymal stromal cells on modulation of immune response.

Olivia Candini, PhD
Cell and Tissue Engineering R&D Manager
MS in Medical Biotechnology and PhD in Experimental Medicine at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. Olivia has been deeply engaged in projects aimed to better understand the impact of human aging and other determinants on mesenchymal progenitor properties for the development of innovative approaches to enhance MSC performance in tissue regeneration. She is now responsible of cell and tissue engineering R&D in Rigenerand 3D-Culture Technologies division also collaborating with the Cell and Gene Therapy R&D Division .
Stella Frabetti, MS
R&D Scientist
Master’s degree in Medical Biotechnology at Bologna University.
Stella acquired expertise in the isolation and differentiation of different kind of human mesenchymal stem cells from tissues like placenta, umbilical cord and adipose tissue during an intership at the Experimental Diagnostic and Speciality Medicine Department of Bologna University. Then she carried out an experience in Pasteur Institute in Paris in Molecular Virology and Vaccinology Unit where she worked to develop technologies to tag HIV-1 genome in order to study the role of capsid remodelling in the early steps of viral infection. She is now a R&D scientist in the Rigenerand 3D-Culture Technologies division.
Alberto Fiorani
Sales Manager
Alberto has over thirty years world wide experience in health care division.
He has been covering the role of Product specialist and Product manager for several multinational companies ( Dideco- Sorin, and Mallinckrodt – Covidien), and the role of International Sales Manager for Fresenius and Eurosets. He is now the Sales Manager for 3D-Culture Technologies division.
